GMC Savanna: Getting Insured

The Savanna is a full-size van in GMC’s lineup. It comes as a passenger van and a cargo van with a base price of $32,500. However, as a buyer in the market for a car, you should also take the costs of ownership into consideration. The sticker price isn’t where your costs will end.

General Motors auto insurance can be quite affordable, but it depends on the model. GMC Savanna auto insurance rates differ from company to company, so shopping around is key. We’ll look at how to find affordable GMC Savanna auto insurance below.

GMC Savanna: Ratings & Reviews

The Savanna comes in 2 trim levels, the LS and LT. The differences between these were discussed above, the LS is more oriented towards cargo-service, while the LT is geared towards transporting a large number of passengers. Around 15 people can be transported at a time with the Savanna.

The Savanna isn’t in the market for luxury features or good looks, but what it was built to do, it does well. The interior is relatively comfortable for passengers, and it is extremely spacious.

As for performance, the V8’s that it is equipped with are more than enough to propel this full-size van forward. The 1500 series is equipped with a 5.3 liter V8, while the 2500 series comes standard with a 4.8 liter V8. The 250 can be further outfitted with an optional 6.0 liter V8.

The van gets an estimated 13 City/ 17 Hwy MPG for the passenger van, and 15 City / 20 Hwy for the Cargo. Neither of these is especially impressive in the fuel efficiency department.

GMC Savanna: Insurance Costs

On average, Savanna owners pay $1,370/year or $114/month on car insurance.

How can we reduce this number? You might be happily surprised that it’s as simple as being a safe and conscientious driver.

It’s all a matter of risk management. The safer your car is, the safer a driver you are, or the safer your location is, the more savings will be passed along to you. So, in essence, if you’re a low-risk policyholder, you’ll pay lower rates. This is why it’s important to be a safe driver. Insurance companies will often reward their policyholders with discounts or incentives if they have been accident-free for a time.

It’s also important to look at where you’re living. Let’s say you’re a safe driver, but you live in an area that sees high levels of traffic congestion. Those other drivers might not be safe drivers, so there is a higher perceived risk. This could raise your rates a bit.

GMC Savanna: Safety Ratings

Typical for work vans, this car has not been tested by the NHTSA or the IIHS. However, the Savanna does have standard safety features that should put you and your insurer at ease. Head and side curtain airbags are standard on all models except the Cargo 2500 & 3500, covering passengers in all 3 rows.
