Hovering at just around $16,500, the Jetta has an attractive sticker price. It is an affordable sedan in Volkswagen’s lineup. However, as with all new purchases, one should consider the associated costs of owning a given car. What will fuel economy look like? How do I find cheap car insurance rates?

The best way that you can lower your rates is by doing your research. Get at least 3 quotes from different companies so that you can compare and contrast. Incentives and discounts are not the same across the board, so one company might afford you a better deal than another one. This is why it’s wise not to stick with the first quote you’re given until you see the competition.

Demographics usually play a role in calculating your rates. People under the age of 25 are considered inexperienced, and sometimes reckless. This could be a factor against you.

If you are planning to move to an urban area with high volumes of traffic congestion, you could also see a rate hike. Simply by being in a more traffic intensive area, your chances of being in an accident are increased. Therefore, insurance companies raise premiums accordingly.

Volkswagen Jetta: Reviews & Ratings

The Volkswagen Jetta is more affordable than previous versions, though it has come at a cost. The Jetta is decidedly less distinctive and toned down, but if what you’re looking for is a lot of bang for your buck, the Jetta is your car.

It is available in 5 trims: base, S, SE, SEL, and TDI. The base trim level leaves a lot to be desired. It doesn’t come equipped with air conditioning or a radio, such amenities that have come to be thought of as standard on most cars. The S fills the void, and adds keyless entry to the mix.

Standard on the lower tier models is a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine; however, one can upgrade to the SE and SEL trims to net your Jetta a 2.5 liter 5 cylinder engine. The SEL can be equipped with a sports package that gives the car better suspension and a more aggressive interior look, while the TDI can be equipped with a turbo version of the 2.0 liter engine.

Volkswagen Jetta: Safety Ratings

The 2012 Jetta has not been tested by the IIHS yet, but the 2011 model is similar enough for comparison purposes. It was recognized as a Top Safety Pick due to receiving the highest possible score of “good” for its front, side, roof, and rear impact crash tests. In addition, the federal government has given the Jetta 4/5 stars overall. It’s received 5/5 stars on side impact crash tests, and 4/5 stars on rollover and frontal crash tests.

These ratings are important, because the more secure your car is, the lower your rates are likely to be.
