Safety Insurance Review
The ratings for Safety Insurance are strong in some areas, but could use some improvement in others. Their financial strength, according to AM Best, is stable enough to earn the company an A rating. This means that, should you need to file a claim, you won’t have to worry about them denying your claim due to lack of company funds. As far as customer satisfaction goes, some sources rate them highly, while others have a significant number of customer complaints on file.
|AM Best (2016)||A|
|Better Business Bureau (2016)||A+|
|BBB Composite Score (2016)||3.76/5 stars|
|NAIC Complaint Index (2012)||0.31 (Better than Average)|

Safety Insurance Discounts
It’s difficult to find an automotive insurance company who doesn’t offer unique discount options these days. But because state laws differ between MA and NH, not all discounts may be available in all areas. Likewise, the maximum possible savings you might qualify for may not be exactly the same as advertised on their website. Your best bet is to contact a Safety Insurance agent near you for more specific details:
|Discount Amount||Maximum Possible Savings|
|Excellent Driver Discount||10 – 24%|
|Control Crash Prevention Program / Safe Roads Alliance||5%|
|Multi-Policy Discount||6 – 10%|
|Good Student (B, Dean’s List, Honor Roll)||10%|
|Student Driver Away from Home||10%|
|Electronic Billing Customer||7%|
|Safety Loyalty Customer||4%|
Safety Insurance Auto Insurance Options
The insurance coverage options available to you will depend on whether you live in Massachusetts or New Hampshire. Regardless of your state, though, Safety insurance policies include Liability coverage (property damage and bodily injury) and Collision coverage. Massachusetts policies also include no-fault Personal Injury Protection as per state law. Beyond that, you can add the following options to your policy if you live in New Hampshire:
- Safety Shield Coverage – includes Collision Deductible Waiver, Full Glass Coverage, Emergency Road Travel Expenses, Airbag Mechanical Failure Coverage, and Extended Substitute Transportation (rental car) Coverage
- Auto Loan/Lease Gap Coverage – if you suffer a total loss on a leased or financed vehicle, Safety pays the total cost of a replacement vehicle
In Massachusetts, your coverage options are a little more extensive. You can choose between Safety Shield Coverage, and Safety Shield Plus. The MA Safety Shield coverage includes:
- Disappearing Collision Deductible
- Rental Vehicle Loss of Income Coverage
- Guaranteed Replacement Cost
- Personal Effects
- Emergency Road Travel Expenses
- Supplemental Towing and Labor
- Air bag mechanical failure
- Extended Substitute Transportation (vehicle rental)
While the Safety Shield Plus coverage includes everything in the Safety Shield package and adds:
- Accident Forgiveness
- Expanded Personal Effects Coverage
- Pet Coverage
- Seat Belt Coverage
- Bail Bonds
Drivers in Massachusetts also have the option of adding Auto Loan/Lease Gap Coverage to their policy.
Comparing Safety Insurance Quotes
Any automotive insurance company can claim to offer the most competitive rates in your area. And sometimes they may be telling the truth – for certain types of drivers, that is:
Knowing how much your prospective insurer might charge you based on your personal circumstances can help you make a more well-informed decision. Oddly enough, young drivers and single drivers who don’t own their own home are offered some pretty competitive premiums, based on the estimated quotes in the chart above. Likewise, older drivers are rewarded for their years of experience behind the wheel with favorable rates too. Conversely, married homeowners might end up paying some of the highest premiums that Safety can charge.
Pros and Cons of Safety Insurance
|VIP Claims Centers help expedite the claims settlement process||Auto insurance not available outside of Massachusetts or New Hampshire|
|Local expertise in Massachusetts and New Hampshire||Some customers complain of a difficult claims resolution process|
Drivers in New Hampshire and Massachusetts who are thinking about switching their car insurance carrier might want to consider comparing a Safety Insurance quote to other providers in their area. This is especially true if your driving profile falls into a higher risk category which most providers charge more for. But if you fall into a lower risk category, there’s a chance that Safety might not be the most affordable company in your area. And even a low rate might not be worth the headache of their claims resolution process, according to complaints from some former customers.Corporate Headquarters
