A Brief History of the Chevrolet SS

The Chevrolet SS originally came from the land down under. Holden, an automotive manufacturer with its headquarters located in Port Melbourne, Victoria, was the original producer of the Chevy SS (known back then as the Holden Commodore SS).

Starting in 2013, Australia began exporting an American version of the sedan through Chevrolet, who sold it in the states as the SS.

Sales of this V8, rear-wheel drive sedan hovered between 3,500 to 5,000 units between 2013 and 2015. In 2016, however, sales took a drastic dive and sold just short of only 700 units.

Although numbers did come back up in 2017 with nearly 2,500 cars sold, this wasn’t enough to inspire Chevrolet to keep producing the SS.

Is the Chevy SS a good car?

Despite what some critics may have you believe, the Chevy SS didn’t necessarily sell poorly because it was a bad car.

Some automotive experts believe that, because it was meant to be an everyman’s sports car, the lack of a manual transmission turned away many motorists who have a need for speed.

There was also a limited quantity agreement between GM and Holden, which meant that it wasn’t necessarily in GM’s interest to advertise a vehicle which, even if they could drive up demand, they wouldn’t be able to supply.

While the Chevy SS has some attractive options to it, at the end of the day, it was almost doomed before it even started selling.

Comparing Chevrolet SS Auto Insurance Coverage

Because the Chevy SS didn’t sell very many units during its run, it may be difficult to dig up information about how much a Chevrolet SS auto insurance policy costs in your area.

For all you know, you may be the only person in your whole city who owns one! While that may make you feel pretty special, keep in mind that rare cars usually require very specific parts for proper maintenance, upkeep, and repair.

In the event of this challenge, no matter where you live, it can make it difficult to find an affordable price for your policy.

Furthermore, in addition to where you live, the insurance company you choose to do business with will likely charge you a very different rate compared to other companies in your zip code.

Unfortunately, if there are many different insurance agencies competing near you, this can make it extremely difficult to find the best deal.

In order to do so, you’ll have to go to each individual insurance company, spend a significant amount of time on the phone or in-office with a representative, divulge a bunch of personal information, and you may even have to wait for them to get back to you with a quote.

This can be time-consuming and stressful if you don’t have any other means to compare free, accurate quotes from providers near you.

It’s hard to talk about affordable auto insurance premiums on a vehicle like the Chevy SS without mentioning one important thing: your driving history.

Specifically, we’re referring to the part of your driving history which relates to speeding tickets. When you’re dealing with a rear-wheel-drive vehicle that also has a V8 engine, even the most conservative drivers may indulge their lead foot now and again.

If you do it too often, though, you’re going to get caught. And if you get caught too many times, or if your speeding ticket(s) clock you going more than 25 miles over the speed limit, your premiums will become very expensive, very quickly.
