Allstate vs. State Farm: Which is available in more states?

When you compare auto insurance policy prices, some companies will pop up in the tool more frequently than others. This is because companies like Allstate and State Farm have spent years in the business building goodwill and expanding.

So, how many states is Allstate currently writing in? It turns out, every last one.

How about State Farm? Well, Allstate is going to win this one because State Farm does not write in Massachusetts, New York, and Wisconsin.

Allstate vs. State Farm: Which has better reviews?

One last thing to look for when you are comparing companies is their ratings from companies like A.M. Best and the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

A.M. Best’s rating system is taken extremely seriously by insurers because it can either ward off or attract customers. Better yet are their Long-Term Issuer Credit Ratings. These exist to instill confidence in regard to the companies’ futures.

A.M. Best’s rating system ranges from A++ down to D. Currently, Allstate has a rating of A+ (Superior) from A.M. Best. State Farm, however, has a rating of A (Excellent). So, while State Farm insurance is rated lower, it’s still pretty close.

As far as Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating goes, State Farm received the highest rating possible of a++. Allstate, however, has recently been demoted from aa to aa-. Because the credit ratings are under review, we can assume that there may be another rating demotion in the future. A clear win for State Farm.

The BBB gave Allstate a rating of A+, which is their highest rating. With that being said, Allstate is not accredited as of this time.

How about State Farm? The BBB gave the also unaccredited State Farm a rating of A. So, in terms of company ratings, Allstate wins.
